Sentinel lymph nodes removal/biopsy scheduled for May 5th. The general surgeon will remove them from both sides to determine whether the cancer has spread to other parts of the body. It’s basically the only pathway the cancer has and if it comes back negative, I’ll be cleared to have the mastectomy with reconstruction on May 13th.

Remoção/biópsia dos nódulos linfáticos foi marcada pro dia 5 de maio. Eles fazem biópsia neles pra determinar se o câncer espalhou para outras áreas do corpo pois esse é o único “caminho” que ele pode tomar para chegar a outros órgãos. Se tudo der negativo, a gente continua com a mastectomia e reconstrução no dia 13 de maio.

The MRI shows the lymph nodes clear and no evidence of cancerous cells in it but we can only be 100% sure after this procedure (outpatient at Kaiser, basically no restrictions after).

A tomografia não acusou nada nos nódulos linfáticos então estamos confiantes que não vai ter nada. Esse procedimento é bem simples e não vou ter quase nenhuma restrição depois.

If the results come back positive (meaning they found cancerous cells in the lymph nodes), then we can’t proceed with the reconstruction but the mastectomy is still necessary. The difference is that I will have to find out where else has the cancer gone and focus on treatment only.

Se o resultado dessa biópsia for positivo (encontraram células cancerígenas neles), a reconstrução tem que ser cancelada e seguimos só com a mastectomia e focamos no tratamento do câncer.

We are pretty confident that I won’t need chemo or radiation. If all goes to plan, after the mastectomy, I will go through ovarian suppression therapy as treatment (which will trigger immediate menopause – fun!)

Estamos confiantes que não vou precisar de quimio ou radio. Se tudo der certo, depois da mastectomia meu tratamento vai ser só com supressão hormonal, que causa menopausa imediatamente.
